Prisoner (original title: Huset) is a raw Danish prison drama set in an old penitentiary where strict rules, violence, and power games determine daily life. The series follows four prison guards who are confronted with moral dilemmas and personal crises as the power dynamics within the prison constantly shift and the threat of closure by the government hangs over the institution. Power in the prison lies not with the guards, but with the prisoners, resulting in the law of the strongest dominating and racism and discrimination defining the atmosphere.The main characters are Sammi, an idealistic newcomer, Henrik, a cynical and experienced prison guard, and Miriam, a guard who tries to stick to the rules. The roles are played by Youssef Wayne Hvidtfeldt (Sammi), David Dencik (Henrik), and Sofie Gråbøl (Miriam). The director of the first season is Kim Fupz Aakeson.Prisoner stands out for its penetrating portrayal of the psychological pressure and moral ambiguity that come with working in a violent, hostile environment.
