10. The beginning of the end
At the Battle of Kursk, the Germans launch their last offensive attack in Russia. The Allies bring the war to Italy and Mussolini loses power. The German fleet of submarines is defeated and driven away from the Atlantic Ocean. British and American air forces begin destroying the Luftwaffe and German cities. US troops begin to defeat the Japanese by ferocious fighting, island by island, man by man.

11. Overlord
The largest amphibious operation in war history reveals itself in the story of "Overlord," of D-Day, when the Allies land on Normandy. Not long after, Charles De Gaulle leads the victory parade in a liberated Paris. In retaliation, Germany releases its new secret V weapons. The Red Army enters Germany and discovers the horrors of Auschwitz. In the Philippines, MacArthur makes good on his promise to return, and the islands of Japan suffer under US Air Force attacks. Hitler makes a desperate attempt to save the war in the Belgian Ardennes with Operation Battle of the Bulge.
