This 1943 Bogie classic is full of top shelf suspense and adventure. It is the story of a battalion of scum stranded in the Sahara during World War II. After the fall of the Libyan city of Tobruk, Sergeant Joe Gunn (Humphrey Bogart) and his squad drive their tank into the Sahara. Along the way, they pick up six lost allies and a Sudanese corporal, Tambul (Rex Ingram), with his Italian prisoner. Tambul leads the group to an abandoned fort where they finally hope to find water. There they encounter a detachment of German soldiers trying to trade food for water. When Gunn refuses, he must prepare his men for a hopeless battle. Scarred by desert life, they can only hope that British reinforcements will arrive in time.
