Popis (anglicky):

In the 1920s, Jewish sisters Helene and Martha immerse themselves in the vibrant life of Berlin. While Martha loses herself in the wild nightlife, Helene wants to study medicine and become a doctor. She is working as a pharmacist's assistant when she meets Karl, the love of her life. As they dream of a future together, the Nazi regime rises to power and Karl is suddenly killed. Broken with grief, Helene pulls herself together and meets Wilhelm, who is madly in love with her. Wilhelm helps her when he discovers her background, but slowly his attitude changes and their views turn out to be very different. They have a son together, whom Helene raises largely on her own. Motherhood is difficult for her, and denying her background becomes increasingly difficult. When the war ends, she makes a drastic decision.

With her film adaptation of Julia Franck's bestseller, Austrian filmmaker Barbara Albert (co-producer of TONI ERDMANN and QUO VADIS, AIDA?, among others) presents an extremely emotional film about a young German woman in wartime who faces impossible dilemmas. Mala Emde (UND MORGEN DIE GANZE WELT) plays this intriguing character and is supported by Thomas Prenn (GROßE FREIHEIT) and Max von der Groeben (HINTERLAND) as her lovers.
