Lilo, a young Hawaiian girl, lives with her older sister, Nani, after the loss of their parents. Lilo is a lonely girl who has trouble making friends and struggles with the idea of family and connection. She becomes fascinated with the idea of family, even when she doesn't always feel understood by others.

One day, Lilo meets a small alien creature, Stitch, who was originally created as a genetic experiment by the evil scientist Dr. Jumbaa Jookiba. Stitch is designed to be destructive and unstoppable, but escapes from space and accidentally lands on Earth, where he is picked up by Lilo, who takes him in as her pet. What Lilo doesn't know is that Stitch was originally created to destroy, and is now being pursued by the space police, led by Agent Pleakley and Captain Gantu.

Stitch, who initially causes chaos and struggles to fit into the human world, gradually learns about emotion, responsibility, and what it means to be part of a family. As Lilo tries to tame him and create a family bound not only by blood but also by love, Stitch develops a deeper understanding of what love and care truly mean.

The film emphasizes the themes of acceptance, cooperation, and unconditional love between Lilo and Stitch, despite their differences. As Stitch overcomes his destructive tendencies, he learns how to change and become a reliable member of Lilo's new family. Ultimately, thanks to Lilo's persistence and love, Stitch realizes that he too is capable of affection and finds his place in the world.
