Tron Ares is an American science fiction action film set in 2025 and the third installment in the Tron series, directly following Tron Legacy. The film is directed by Joachim Rønning and takes place largely in the real world. The story revolves around Ares, a highly advanced program sent from the digital world to the real world on a dangerous mission. Ares is the first AI entity to encounter humanity and must find a crucial computer code that will allow AI to exist permanently in the real world. At the same time, Ares develops a desire to lead a real, long-term existence as a human being. The film is set in a cyberpunk-like future in which Encom, led by Eve Kim, battles Julian Dillinger's weapons company. This brings humanity into contact with artificial intelligence for the first time. The film is known for its spectacular visuals and effects. The leading roles are played by Jared Leto as Ares, Greta Lee as Eve Kim, and Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger.
