Popis (anglicky):

Hamnet is a 2025 historical drama film directed by Chloé Zhao, who co-wrote the screenplay with Maggie O'Farrell based on her 2020 novel. It explores the imagined early life of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his wife Agnes (Jessie Buckley) in 1580s plague-ravaged England, focusing on their passionate romance, family struggles, and profound grief over the death of their 11-year-old son Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe) from bubonic plague. As a Latin tutor in Stratford-upon-Avon, William falls for the wild, herbalist Agnes, and they marry hastily after she becomes pregnant with daughter Susanna. Twins Hamnet and Judith follow. William pursues his writing ambitions in London, leaving Agnes behind. Tragedy strikes when Hamnet sacrifices himself to save his twin sister from the plague, straining the couple's bond. Agnes blames William's absence, but his sorrow fuels Hamlet, which they witness together at the Globe, finding catharsis in art's tribute to their loss. Emily Watson co-stars as William's mother. The film blends tender intimacy, folklore, and historical fiction to illuminate how personal devastation birthed Shakespeare's masterpiece.
